Docademia @ BGSU
We are pleased to announce the success of a recent Docademia film screening, faculty/community workshop, and internship information session held at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, from September 27th to the 28th . The event was open to the public. Students, BGSU faculty, local area educators, and community activists were all in attendance.
Our screening and workshop were held from 6-8pm on the 27th . The film screened from our collection was Sarah Khaki’s “Facing the Mirror,” which focuses on the life and work of an NYC-based plastic surgeon who helps survivors of war and brutality reconstruct their physical bodies. An interactive video chat with the director was held immediately after the screening. To enhance the screening and facilitate a first-hand look at the special services we offer, we also demonstrated some of the participatory educational materials available as supplements to “Facing the Mirror.”
An internship question-and- answer session was held on the 28th from 10am-noon. Current interns and volunteers from the BGSU community shared their Docademia internship experiences and took questions from the audience.
This event was another step in our journey of encouraging faculty members to bring diverse stories into their classrooms, give marginalized voices an opportunity to be heard, and showcase how Docademia works to enhance multiculturalism and meaningful learning in higher education.
