A Trail of Pigment

“A Trail of Pigment” is an exploration into the culture of natural color from Kerala to Rajasthan in India. Parris Jaru and Kiritin Beyer travel to discover the many provenances of natural colors. Sandalwood, turmeric, indigo and many other elements are used to create these dyes and paints. From an Ayurveda forest in Kerala to the Ran of Kuch near the Pakistani border, they discover traditional techniques as well as more modern ways elements of the earth are used- from Visual Arts to healing techniques. The coloring of saris and blankets, as well as walls and canvas are very old traditions in India, which continue today through the colors with which we paint our world. From the artist’s’ palette to our newly remodeled homes, color is an integral part of every society worldwide both then and now.
